DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
After an early morning breakfast, you will head out for a city tour, this tour includes a visit to the Kigali genocide site to explore what took place during the 1994 Rwanda genocide. Later, drive north-west to Volcanoes National Park while enjoying the exceptional views of rolling hills, magical volcanoes, and valleys. Arrive early enough to check in at the lodge to have rest. Dinner and overnight at Lebambou Gorilla lodge.
Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking
After an early breakfast, head to kinigi Visitor’s center for briefing and head into the forest in search for these endangered primates in the Virunga Mountains. The golden monkeys here have been well habituated and can be tracked without altering their behavior. This means you’ll be able to view the golden monkey playing, feeding and jumping from tree to tree. The time spent with the monkeys is limited to an hour as you see these inquisitive creatures in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge for lunch and depart to Bwindi Impenetrable forest in via Kabale town.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking
After breakfast, briefing, gorilla tracking to have time with these giants in the thick forests of Bwindi. You will be allowed to spend one full hour with Gorillas as you take several pictures as the gorillas play, feed and go about their daily activities. Return to the lodge later and if time allows we shall have an evening community walk and entertainment around the fire place by the locals. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in a different sector of Bwindi
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the gorilla tracking information office for a short pre-gorilla tracking briefing by the park warden and rangers at 8am. After briefing this morning, the park rangers will then lead you into the forest to track the Mountain gorillas. The thrill of spending time observing the gorillas the second time as they interact with each other is so pleasing and unforgettable, you are allowed an hour watching the interaction of these close relatives of ours. You are advised to carry with you a packed lunch for, the time spent tracking the gorillas is uncertain varying from 3 to 8 hours. Dinner and night stay at Chameleon Hill lodge.
Day 5: Batwa Community visit and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast the batwa are the former occupants of the forest before being chased out to make it a wildlife reserve. These people have great history with their way of life. You will visit the traditional healers to learn how these people use herbs for medicine and see how they make fire in their ancient style. You will also have a chance to interact with the locals and how they go about their daily lives. Later have lunch at the lodge, and drive to Lake Bunyonyi. Dinner and overnight at Birds nest lodge
Day 6: Lake Bunyonyi.
Wake up to the beautiful songs of the birds in this area, have breakfast. You will go for a boat ride on this small but rather deep and interesting lake in the middle of high hills of Kigezi. The lake has over 29 islands which will be explored on an engine boat as you interact with people on some of these islands on the lake. You will later return to the lodge to relax and chat the evening away as you watch the sun set. Dinner and overnight at Birds nest lodge
Day 7: Transfer to Kigali Rwanda
After a tasty breakfast, we shall leave Bunyonyi and drive to Rwanda for departure and end our trip there with lunch in Kigali town.
