DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 01: Arrive and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Depending on your arrival time, you will meet our driver/guide at the Airport and start your trip with Kigali city tour which includes the genocide site, museum and craft markets. In case of late arrivals, you may spend a night in a hotel in Kigali. You have lunch in Kigali and later drive northwards to Volcanoes National Park. Check in at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge for dinner and night stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Start your day with a charming breakfast at your lodge and after, meet at Kinigi park headquarters to be briefed on the set gorilla trekking rules and regulations. The briefing usually starts early and there after you will be allocated a habituated gorilla family to track in a group of 8 visitors and one professional park ranger guide to take you through that adventure. This activity normally lasts for about 2-6 hours depending on your speed of hiking, nature of gorilla habitat and movement of these creatures. Once you have found a group assigned to you, only one hour will be allowed for you to strike your imaginations, explore in depth their behaviors, body gestures and take their photos as many as you want. Retrn to the lodge and in the evening, you can go for a nature walk to Twin Lakes-Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo or you can simply remain at the lodge to have enough rest for the next day’s adventure. Dinner and overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.
Day 3: Golden Monkey tracking in Rwanda
Have breakfast at the lodge and take a drive to Kinigi park headquarters where briefing is done to know what rules and regulations to observe while tracking the golden monkeys. You will then depart in a group of 8 visitors led by experienced park ranger guide. The golden monkeys live in the Virunga Mountains and Volcanoes is one of their habitats. After finding a habituated group of these primates, you will be allowed to have a whole hour in their presence learning about their behavior and life style as you watch them feed and play. Take as many pictures as you want. After this blissful magical encounter, return to your lodge to have rest. In the evening, you will pay a visit to Iby’iwachu Cultural Village for cultural experience learning about the traditions, cultures of Rwandese. Dinner and overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.
Day 4: Dian Fossey hike and drive back to Kigali
Enjoy your breakfast at the lodge and later, you set off for Dian Fossey burial site hike. Dian Fossey was an American primatologist who dedicated her life to conserve the mountain Gorillas bit was late killed by poachers. A visit to her burial site in the park will give you more insight about her story. After, drive back to Kigali to catch up with your flight back or spend an extra night in a hotel in Kigali (at an extra cost).
